Heropanti Music Review

Nadiadwala Grandsons' next offering HERPOPANTI is surely the perfect launch pad for actor Jackie Shroff's handsome son Tiger and the beautiful Kirti Sanon. A youthful action love story provides ample scope for hit duo, Sajid-Wajid, to come up with some chartbusting numbers, although one expects some memorable songs, keeping in mind that star son launches have always provided audience with numbers having long shelf life. Right from BOBBY, LOVE STORY, BETAAB, KAHO NA PYAAR HAI, the list is long! With expectations quite high, let's check out what the duo along with guest composer Manj Musik have to offer us.

The album kicks off with the memorable flute piece signature tune (here in form of a whistle) of Tiger's dad, Jackie Shroff's debut blockbuster HERO, and it's a wise ploy on part of guest composer Manj Musik to use it for 'Whistle Baja'! The song is a uniquely decorated and laced with Punjabi Bhangra and rap (by Raftaar who at times imitate Yo Yo) with and HERO's haunting flute piece added in between. Nandy Kaur and the composer do the honours and the end result is a chartbusting effort.
Simple sweet sounding melody, superb orchestrations, some lovely soothing guitaring, its Sajid-Wajid at their melodious best in 'Rabba'. Mohit Chauhan is great as always, though he does bring in that nasal twang in between, for reasons unknown! Kausar Munir successfully pens down some novel and simple lyrics that are quite appealing.
Arijit Singh sounds quite Atif Aslam like as he commences, 'Raat Bhar', the racy romantic song about two love birds breaking free from all barriers and enjoying each other's company. One can easily gauge a strong inspiration from the duo's very own 'Mukhtasar' (TERI MERI KAHAANI) in terms of the racy melody and mood. Shreya Ghoshal sings like a pro.
An all-out rock number composed in the Pakistani pop/rock mode, 'Tabah', is well rendered by by Mohit Chauhan, although Sajid-Wajid offer nothing novel or fresh in terms of tune or orchestrations. A song about separation from the beloved fails to impress.
The remix version of 'Tabah' is better than the original with the club feel adding to the dance effect.
Much publicized 'The Pappi Song', a Punjabi pop bhangra based dance number by Manj Musik Raftaar. The tune is familiar but catchy; lyrics are quite childish though they might impress the youth. Raftaar once again imitate Yo Yo Honey Singh with his intermittent rap, and the effect is just not the same, failing to connect with the listeners.
'Mustafa Zahid and Bilal Saad's 'Tere Binaa', is a gem of a separation/judaai number, the melody rich and tune fresh, the rendition flawless. The unplugged manner (with minimalistic instruments, just a hint of guitar) in which the duo have created the song with emphasis on loud and clear and emotive vocals is the highlight along with lyrics which too are impressive. One can never forget Tiger's dad Jackie dada's 'Lambi Judaai' (HERO) sung by the legendary Pakistani artist Reshma and it appears that Mustafa-Bilal might provide Tiger too with a winner here.
The audio of HEROPANTI has some chartbusting numbers like 'Whistle Baja' and 'Raat Bhar' but our favourites are 'Rabba' and 'Tere Binaa'. The songs will surely climb the charts and find popularity but the memorable, extraordinary music that one expected from the debut album of Tiger (just like his dad's HERO) is simply not there. Nevertheless the good promotions and the chartbusting songs of the album will provide the film with a good opening when it releases all over on 23rd May, 2014.
