Deepika Padukone reveals the reasons for her depression

Career wise, Deepika Padukone is at her peek. She is one of Bollywood’s most accomplished actresses with lots of big collaborations and awards in her name. But like every other person, even Deepika is a human who can be affected by the situations around her.

Deepika Padukone Reveals The Reasons For Her Depression

The actress recently revealed that she has been suffering from depression for quite some time now, and that she is working towards overcoming it. The 29-year-old actress confessed that she was trying to avoid her situation by focusing more on her work, but in the end she broke down in front of her mother Ujjala Padukone and went on to seek professional help.

In a recent interview Deepika stated, “People often think ‘How can you be depressed? You have everything going for you. You are the supposed number one heroine and have a plush home, car, movies… What else do you want?’” She believes that being depressed has nothing to do with what a person owns or doesn’t own.

Deepika also added, “There were days when I would feel okay, but at times, within a day, there was a roller-coaster of feelings. Finally, I accepted my condition.” The actress revealed that the death of a close friend by suicide is what moved her to seek professional help.
“My personal experience as well as my friend’s death urged me to take up this issue, which isn’t usually talked about. There is shame and stigma attached to talking about depression. In fact, one in every four people suffers from anxiety and depression.” She added.
Deepika is currently working with others to initiate a helping process for people who have depression, and to create awareness about it.
