Womens Day Special: 10 Bollywood Women Centric Films That Made It Happen

Today is Women’s Day and the theme of 2015 Women’s Day is “Make It Happen”, and these Bollywood films made it happen! Yes, these inspirational, heart touching stories speak about strength, ideas, creativity, freedom and gives us power to break through the stereotypical mentality. On this special day, we wish all the gorgeous women a happy Women’s Day. You’re worth it! And here’s the list of 10 Bollywood Women Centric Films That Speak About Strength for you.

Mother India The 1957 melodrama, film Mother India is one of the most popular women centric Bollywood movie of all time. We, Indians regard our country as Mother and in this film, the protagonist fights with the whole society, after her husband leaves her. She takes care of her children, too. The film portrayed the true inner strength of woman. Directed by Mehboob Khan, the film starred Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar and Raaj Kumar in the lead roles.

    Queen Directed by Vikas Bahl, Queen is an comedy drama film about a middle class shy girl, who decides to live by herself and go out on a journey after she is ditched by her fiancé at the altar. The lead role was played by Kangana Ranaut. The actress aced the role. The film really motivates a lot.
    English Vinglish The story revolves around Sridevi‘s character, a middle class housewife from India, in USA, who after becoming topic of everyone’s joke, sets out to learn English during a family vacation, to find her true worth and gain self confidence. The film was directed by Gauri Shinde.

    Mardaani In Pradeep Sarkar‘s Mardaani, Rani Mukherjee played the role of a cop who sets out on a mission to catch the culprits behind human trafficking, risking her own life. Rani did all the justice to the character. The film was one of the best women centric film.

    Kahaani Vidya Balan played the lead role in the film. After losing her husband and unborn child in a poison gas tragedy, the protagonist of the film sets out to find the culprit and bring him to justice, rather than sobbing and grieving. The film was directed by Sujay Ghosh.
 

   No One Killed Jessica A girl is murdered by a politician’s son, the girl’s sister sets out to find justice for her sister. She fights the system and in her this fight, a female journalist joins in and shows support. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the film starred Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee.

    Mary Kom Priyanka Chopra played the lead character in this biopic. The film essays the picture of Mary Kom‘s struggle to follow her dreams and be a boxer. It traces the journey of the celebrated Indian sports person, from training to falling in love, getting married, having two kids and pursuing her boxing dreams.

    Lajja Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film is about the restrictions put upon Indian women. The film had a huge star cast. It starred, Manisha Koirala, Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Mahima Chaudhry, Jackie Shroff, Johnny Lever, Anil Kapoor, Samir Soni, Ajay Devgn and Danny Denzongpa.

    Damini A woman is happily married and everything in her life is perfect, until one day see catches her brother in law raping their house maid. The woman stand against the brutal act and seeks justice for the maid, even though her in laws, including her husband oppose her. The lead character in the film was played by Meenakshi Seshadri. The film also features Sunny Deol and Rishi Kapoor.

    Dor The film takes us through the heartbreaking reality of widows in some corners of India. The story is about a widow, who is forced to abandon her hopes, dreams after she loses her husband. She finds a friend in another widow and learns to dream again and finally, takes a bold daring step and breaks through and cage and runs towards her freedom. Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the film starred Ayesha Takia in the lead role.
