Top 10: Bollywood Films Of 2014

Bollywood delivered a number of movies this year. Thanks to the business that never slows down, we witnessed a lot of movies come and go from the box office. Some ruled the big screen, while some fell to the very depth of it. Here’s our list of 2014’s top 10 Bollywood movies that won our hearts.


 #10 Mardaani Director Pradeep Sarkar brings you a crime thriller film “Mardaani”. The film takes you on a journey of a tough female police officer (played by Rani Mukherji), who’s hunting down culprits who abducted a teenage girl, and ends up uncovering the secret of human trafficking carried by Indian Mafia. Star Cast: Rani Mukherji, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jisshu Sengupta

 #9 Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” is a typical Hindi rom-com film; directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar, the kind of movie that Simran (of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge) would have loved. The film tells a story about a feisty young girl, soon to be married to an NRI. She agrees to go through the whole business of arranged marriage on one condition, that she be provided with “Kareena Wala Designer Lehenga” for her marriage. Her search for the perfect lehenga takes her to Delhi and that’s where Humpty meets the Dulhania, and the story begins. Star Cast: Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Ashutosh Rana, Siddharth Shukla 

 #8 Highway “Highway”, directed by Imtiaz Ali, takes us on a journey of young woman (played by Alia Bhatt), who is abducted right before her wedding and is held for ransom. But as the days pass on and journey continues, she starts to form a bond with her kidnappers. Star Cast: Randeep Hooda, Alia Bhatt

 #7 Queen “Queen” is a perfect comedy-drama directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane. The film takes you on a journey for a shy introvert girl, Rani, from New Delhi to Paris and Amsterdam right after her fiancĂ© calls off the weeding. Star Cast: Kangana Ranaut, Rajkummar Rao, Lisa Haydon

 #6 Mary Kom “Mary Kom” is a biographical sports film depicting all the drama, huddle, ups and downs that Mary Kom (played by Priyanka Chopra), the five times female World Boxing Champion and Olympic bronze medalist goes through in her journey. The film is directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Star Cast: Priyanka Chopra, Darshan Kumaar, Sunil Thapa

 #5 Haider “Haider” is Vishal Bharadwaj’s adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”. The Protagonist Haider, (played by Shahid Kapoor) a poet, who returns to Kashmir during an on-going conflict, to seek answers and reasons behind his father’s disappearance but ends up becoming a prey of dirty politics and drama. Star Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor, Kay Kay Menon

 #4 Bang Bang Things we saw in Siddharth Anand’s action thriller film “Bang Bang” were loads of guns, a sexy duo and obviously, the Bang Bang element. “Bang Bang” is an official remake of Hollywood film “Knight and Day”. The film did great on box office and is one among the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time, even though the film received mixed reviews. Star cast: Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Danny Denzongpa, Javed Jaffrey, jimmy Shergill 

 #3 Happy New Year “Happy New Year” directed by Farah Khan and produced by Gauri Khan is an action-packed musical heist film with a touch of comedy. In the movie, we see a team of complete “losers”, win the heart of millions while on their hidden agenda of pulling off the biggest diamond heist ever and seek revenge. Big star cast and entertaining script is a major plus point of the film. “Happy New Year” received positive as well as negative reviews but proved to be a huge commercial success. Star Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishekh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood, Vivaan Shah, Jackie Shroff 

 #2 Kick Sajid Nadiawala’s action-thriller film “Kick” depicts a story about a fearless guy who likes to live his life on the edge, just to feel the adrenaline rush. The protagonist soon walks out of love and turns into a thief, and soon enough is persuaded by an honest police officer and gets indulged in a tug-of-war with a local gangster. As the viewer goes deeper into the film, the real mystery and the hidden mission for which the protagonist is ready to toss his life for is revealed. 

 #1 PK Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, “PK” is a story about an alien (played by Aamir Khan), who loses his locket which was his remote to call the spaceship to get back to his planet, in a matter of few minutes right after he lands. Soon he takes us on a journey of laughter, love and letting go. He charms us with his curiosity and attentive nature while wandering in a strange city, seeking answers for his questions that nobody seems to care about. Star Cast: Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani, Saurabh Shukla, Sanjay Dutt
