Enough with the tall, dark and handsome men. Let’s talk about the tall,
dusky, sexy women that have ruled Bollywood in their own times! From the
mesmermising (late) Smita Patil to the gorgeous Kajol and Bipasha, the
film industry has been blessed with these beauties who proved everyone
wrong - that only fair is beautiful! Take a look at these women (only a
few out of the many) who have ridden the success wave for a long, long
time.
Nandita Das
Oh,
how we’d love to see more of this beauty! Very conspicuous with her
absence, Nandita Das with her few but completely off-beat films has
managed to create a special place in the industry and in our hearts.

(late) Smita Patil
Her
career spanned just over a decade but she was part of 80 Hindi and
Marathi films that gave the industry a much-needed refreshing break. The
late Smita Patil will forever remain as one of the best of her times,
her raw beauty and sensuality setting her way above her contemporaries.
Her performances always packed a punch, and were mostly award-winning
ones. A great loss to Hindi cinema, Smita Patil died at the age of 31,
two weeks after she gave birth to her son, Prateik Babbar, following
medical complications.

Bipasha Basu
A
beauty in her own right, Bipasha Basu has always had great screen
presence. Her personality and absolutely gorgeous eyes have sent many a
heart on fire. Her raw appeal, her unconventional looks and more so, an
attitude that can help her carry off any role, makes her one among the
finest actresses of today.

Sandhya Mridul
Yes, remember the girl who played Rani Mukerjee’s sister in the romantic film Saathiya? Essayed by Sandhya Mridul with utmost ease, the role was crucial in landing her several other offers including Page 3 and more recently, Angry Indian Goddesses. For someone who started off with TV in a lead role on a prime time soap Swabhimaan, followed by Banegi Apni Baat, Sandhya Mridul has proved that she’s an actor par excellence, and that beauty really lies in true talent!

Mugdha Godse
She played a crucial role in Madhur Bhandarkar’s much acclaimed film Fashion, but we didn’t really see her gain prominence in any commercial ventures after that. Mugdha’s certainly scorching the ramp even if she’s not visible on the silver screen, but we do hope to see more of her soon!

Konkona Sen-Sharma
Wake Up Sid! Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, Page 3- all
blockbuster hits that sent Konkona’s career graph soaring. But, this
bong beauty decided to play it low and take up offers that only offer
distinctive roles instead of jumping at every opportunity that came
along. Smart move, we say, but let’s hope she doesn’t do the
disappearing act, because clearly, we could use more of such talented
artists!
**************************************************************************************
Kajol
Right, what do we say about this gorgeous woman. Think Baazigar, Gupt, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Kajol
has never failed to mesmerise with her jaw-drop simplicity and raw
appeal. She has also never shied away from her own dusky avatar, with
very natural make-up that suits her skin tone. With time, she has only
gotten better and looks more gorgeous in her own skin!
**************************************************************************************
Shabana Azmi
Always
known for her performances in the art-house genre just like her
contemporary (late)Smita Patil, the rustic beauty that is Shabana Azmi
has given the industry some of it’s best films yet, including Ankur, Arth, Masoom and several other National Award winning films!
